Ball bearing turbochargers are renowned for having far superior spool up qualities than a like for like plain bearing counterpart. The GTX and EFR range all use ball bearings due to their performance characteristics, and now even the OEM are getting on board. Mercedes led the way with the VKLR examples, with other brands following shortly after offering high performing diesel cars running turbos using low friction ceramic ball bearing systems. We at Pioneering Performance are leading the way in making this exciting technology available to the mainstream - for the VAG 1.9 TDi range initially, with plenty of others in development.

We can offer retrofit CHRA assemblys for rebuilding a VKLR unit and/or converting it for another application (commonly 1.9/2.0/3.0 TDi). We sell whole plug n play VAG 1.9 VKLR turbos, and if we don't list it yet we are probably going to soon!
